Washington Center for Nursing

NCSBN TTP Study

The National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) has developed a Transition to Practice model which will be tested in three states starting in July 2011 to investigate its effect on patient safety and quality outcomes. The study will provide evidence for Boards of Nursing on whether or not to implement this regulatory model.

WCN worked closely with the Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission (NCQAC) to determine if Washington State has a sufficient number of hospitals that meet the study criteria to apply for participation in the study. After contacting all hospitals in the state that could reasonably be expected to hire at least 10 new graduates between July and September of 2011 and informing them in detail about the study, NCQAC and WCN determined that interest in the study and expected hiring of new nurses was not sufficient to allow WA State to apply for participation. WCN will continue to follow the study and apply relevant materials and outcomes to its TTP work.

The three states selected to participate in Phase I of the study are Illiois, North Carolina and Ohio.
